About the Work
The thing that makes my jewellery and metalwork unique is the story behind the piece. Every piece is made using a process more similar to that for producing sculpture - starting with photos, drawings and playing with materials before finalising the designs and creating simple, elegant pieces with a contemporary, stylish edge.
Photos are often the starting point. Architecture, texture, form, negative space and structure are some of the things I am drawn to. These form the start of my work and often develop into drawings and test pieces.
The test pieces are playful and non-conformist. I am often testing and pushing my skills to see what is possible. Being self-taught means that I am not bogged down in tradition and process. This is quite liberating as I think around the technical problems to make them work.
Once the ideas and techniques are developed, I then work hard to ensure that the work is beautifully made and finished. This is very time-consuming, but essential to ensure that the work is of a high quality.
I strive for the work to be simple, elegant and well-designed, but with a contemporary, stylish edge. Pieces are often described as 'wearable sculpture' and as having a 'stylish elegance' and are worn both everyday and to dress up an outfit - proving the versatility and wearability of each design.
Pieces are either one-offs, or made in small batches forming collections. Each piece is individual with its own evidence of making and process making it unique.

About the Artist
I have always made things. As a child I loved hammering wood, painting murals and constructing sculptures. This love of making has continued right through my life. However, after studying Fine Art at Birmingham School of Art I struggled to find a focus for my work. A few years later I started playing with metal for the first time - this was a decision that I have not looked back from.
I love the alchemy of metal and taught myself techniques through playing and experimentation, later on doing a course to refine and speed up some techniques.
I now live in Bristol with my partner and 2 young daughters, where I love being part of the local creative community. I spend as much time as possible beavering away in my studio. Designing and experimenting with ideas are my favourite part of the process.
